everyone feels compelled to ask me why i want my profession to revolve around something so dark. adult women, mainly. my mother is well known in my town, i presume, and everyone’s been asking her “what’s your daughter going to school for, what does she want to do?” she then explains that i’m going for “criminal psychology”  (forensic psych) to get my doctorate and work as a profiler. they’re all so shocked. they literally say, “oh. wow.” like it’s so absurd that Kelley’s daughter wants to talk to rapists and serial killers all day. but there’s so much more to it than that. what mainly compels me is how interested in them i am.  why do they do the things they do. what do they receive in return- justification, sexual release? if my profile leads the right people to the right person, and they spend the rest of their life behind bars and are unable to hurt anyone else, why not do it?
